A serious hike for walkers ready to push a little further. We meet at four, walk in by torchlight, and crest the summit just as the sun pulls itself out of the eastern cloud-line.

About this hike

The classic horseshoe route — up via Corn Du, summit at Pen y Fan, down through the Beacons Way. Thirteen kilometres, eight hundred-odd metres of ascent, real weather possible at every minute.

This is a hike for walkers with at least one Hike2Heal hike behind them. We'll talk it through honestly before you book.

What to bring

  • Proper hiking boots — broken in
  • Three layers minimum: base, mid, hard-shell
  • Two litres of water and a hot drink for the summit
  • Hat, gloves, head-lamp, sun-cream, a friend's number

Hike-leads

Daniel has summited Pen y Fan twenty-plus times in every weather. Mira is a Mountain Leader with seven years guiding in the Beacons.
