Ireland Adventure — Carrauntoohil

We took the ferry to Ireland and took on Carrauntoohil, the country's highest mountain — battling rain, wind and slippery rock, and laughing until our faces ached, before celebrating together as one team.

Some hikes stay with you forever, and our HIKE2HEAL trip to Ireland in May 2025 was definitely one of them.

From the moment we boarded the ferry, there was a sense of excitement and anticipation. Travelling together was an adventure in itself, with laughter, stories and conversations flowing as we made our way through Ireland's stunning countryside. The scenery was breathtaking, and every mile brought us closer to what would become one of our most memorable hikes yet.

We stayed together in a welcoming hostel close to the village, which quickly became our home for the weekend. As always with HIKE2HEAL, it wasn't just about the hike; it was about the connection, the friendships and the shared experience. There was a real sense of togetherness from the moment we arrived.

The challenge of Carrauntoohil

Then came the challenge of Carrauntoohil, Ireland's highest mountain.

The weather certainly tested us. We battled rain, wind and slippery conditions, but nobody gave up. Together we scrambled over rocks, encouraged one another through difficult sections and kept moving forward as a team. There were moments when the climb felt tough, but there were just as many moments filled with laughter. At times we laughed so much that tears rolled down our faces, creating memories that still make us smile today.

What stood out most was the incredible connection between everyone on the hike. It didn't matter where people had come from or what challenges they had faced in life. On that mountain we were one team, united by a common goal and supporting one another every step of the way.

Reaching the summit

Reaching the summit was an unforgettable feeling. The sense of achievement, pride and gratitude was overwhelming. Every step, every scramble and every challenge was worth it for that moment standing together at the top.

Celebrating together

After completing the hike, we celebrated in true HIKE2HEAL style with a meal together. Sitting around the table, sharing food, stories and laughter, there was a deep sense of accomplishment and belonging. Friendships had grown stronger and new connections had been formed that will last a lifetime.

For me personally, this trip gave me memories and friendships that I will treasure forever. It was a reminder that some of life's greatest moments happen when we step outside our comfort zones and face challenges together.

Carrauntoohil wasn't just a mountain climb; it was an experience of connection, resilience and friendship that perfectly captures what HIKE2HEAL is all about.

"Take the first step in recovery… then keep walking."
