What the trail knows about you.

A short piece about the strange honesty of moving forward through weather.

There is a thing that happens around the eight-kilometre mark. The early conversation has burned off — the weather chat, the trail-shoe brand chat, the where-do-you-live chat — and what's left is the quieter thing underneath.

People say more on a hill than they say in a room. Always have. Always will.

The honest mile

Walking changes the shape of a sentence. You can say a hard thing while you're climbing because the climb gives the words somewhere to go. You don't have to look at anyone. You don't have to wait for a reaction. You just keep moving.

That's why we walk slow. It's not about the distance. It's about the bit between sentences.

Coming up

Our spring season opens in March. If you've been meaning to come — come. The trail knows you already.
